SHELTER · CHICKENS · DAILY CARE
Build a chicken coop for daily care before adding birds.
A coop is part of a living system, not a standalone box. Birds need reliable shelter, ventilation, water, dry feed storage, cleaning access, predator resistance and a plan for bedding and manure.
Start with the daily route
Walk the route for feed, water, eggs, bedding and cleaning before finalising the location. Keep feed dry and secure, make water simple to refill and clean, and provide shade and weather protection without closing off airflow.
Make maintenance possible
Choose a layout that lets you remove soiled bedding, collect eggs and inspect birds without crawling through a difficult space. Structures need to resist the conditions of the site; major design or structural questions should be checked with an appropriate local professional.
